Annual Club BBQ (26th July). From 6pm This year, the annual club BBQ will be held at Black Rock Sands Campsite in Porthmadog, so hopefully no midges!!! Everyone welcome. Bring food, drink fishing rods and buckets and spades. Also don't forget your rock boots as there is some bouldering on the beach and of course it is close to Tremadog. Camping is £9 per adult per night (£4 for children). There are also plans to stay Friday night as well. If you're interested in coming to just the BBQ or for the whole weekend then contact Liz Hewitt. Lakes Meet (2nd - 10th August 2008) An opportunity to escape Snowdonia! The Lake District meet in 2008 will be in Langdale which offers wonderful climbing and walking. Gimmer crag is truly one of the great crags of the UK with superb quality routes across the grades. In a recent article in "Climber" a topo showed 14 x 3* routes. Other worthwhile crags are White Ghyll and Raven. There is much excellent walking. Accommodation will mainly be based on National Trust campsite but as some of us are also Climbers Club members, it should also be possible to use the Robertson Lamb hut in Langdale as well and sign members in as guests. This is a wonderful hut with full facilities for around a fiver a night. Members can come for the full week or just turn up for a few days. Please let Mike Doyle know to co-ordinate. Portland (27th September - 4th October 2008) Our annual club sport climbing trip to Portland (the dangly bit hanging off Weymouth on the S. coast) will be from Sat 27th Sept - Sat 4th Oct. Cars will be shared and caravans will be hired on the Isle. A 6 berth caravan is available for £150 for a week at this time www.glencaravanpark.co.uk. There is a new Dorset guide, which includes Portland and Swanage, published in 2005. www.rockfax.com. The Isle of Portland is most famous for its quarried white stone but in recent years it has become better known to climbers as Britain's premier sport climbing venue. The 6 km of cliff encircling the Isle have been developed with hundreds of well-bolted routes across the grade range, in a beautiful sea-cliff setting, with short walk-ins and few tide and access problems. It is the closest thing Britain has to a year-round climbing venue with a mild climate and high sunshine factor. Portland means accessible sport routes on weird and wonderful rock formations spread over many areas. It is also now being appreciated as a great place to hone your onsighting skills. All the routes are very well bolted with long life staples throughout so you can push your grade to the limit without fear. Anyone interested should contact Mike Doyle. ROUTES BREAKDOWN
Turkey Sport Climbing Trip - Antalya
On the southern coast of Turkey, near the ancient resort of Antalya, is a relatively new rock climbing area sitting in the shadow of the Taurus Mountains. The main area is Geyikbayry (450 routes of Fr 4 to 8b). 3 other local areas have a total of about 260 routes and deep water soloing. There is a bouldering area at 2000m surrounded by mountain pastures and snow covered summits. Thousands of blocks, some mountain pines and cosy alpine huts make this area unique. These untouched mountainous regions with ocean views, the nice Turkish climbing scene, combined with Turkish culture and hospitality creates a unique atmosphere. The definitive rock climbing guidebook covering Geyikbayiri, Olympos, Akyarlar, and Karataslar areas in Antalya... Details of over 670 routes across all grades. Each crag is introduced with a clear location map and all the routes are shown, topo style on good clear photographs, with French grades. This 2nd edition was published in Sept. 2007, and is written in Turkish and English text. The 2007 guide book can be bought from: http://www.climb-europe.com Whos for Turkey next year then? It's not going to be a cheapo Kalymnos - type deal unfortunately as the cheapest flight available after much searching is 255. The much better deal is to book a package. See the details below. The hotel is in Antalya old quarter which is near the main climbing area of Geyikbayiri (about 40km). Antalya town is very near the airport. The hotel is quite small and looks attractive. See the link below. The proposed dates are 3rd - 17th March 2009. The whole deal for 2 weeks is £425 p.p. i.e. flights, supplements, hotel and half board. 1 week = £346. Car hire will be extra and shared and I charge £4 p.p. to cover my incidental expenses in organising. Please be aware of the club cancellation policy . at top of events page on CMC website. Expressions of interest asap to Mike Doyle please. Hotel details: http://www.otbeach.com/cheap-holidays/turkey/antalya/town/antalya/hotel/karyatit-hotel-special-275562.html |
